Reykjavik
Big enough to be culturally cosmopolitan but small enough to feel like a town, Reykjavik is very walkable and has an abundance of family run cafes, trendy restaurants, hip bars and award winning architecture. Reykjavik is also a great base for exploring the rest of Iceland.
Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is Iceland's most famous scenic route. It is a round-trip sightseeing tour that combines stunning landmarks and historically significant places. Its proximity to Reykjavík and the airport area and the short drive between the sights make it convenient for everyone to include the Golden Circle tour in their itinerary. Whether you take only one or more days to explore the Golden Circle, you’ll experience some of the most stunning geological wonders Iceland has to offer!
North Iceland
Guesthouse Húni is just a little over an hour away from Akureyri, the most populated town in north Iceland and a great jumping off point for the north. The northern landscape evokes strong, stark and forbidding emotions.This is why many outer space movies as well as the immensely popular Game of Thrones were shot here.
South Iceland
Much traversed by tourists coming to Iceland, the south is known for the Golden Circle route (Gullfoss or the Golden Waterfall, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park). It is easily a day trip starting off from Reykjavik.
Keflavik Airport
Iceland only has one (1) international airport. The Keflavik International Airport is located in Keflavik, Iceland. It is 49 kilometers from Reykjavik.
It will take you 50minutes to 1 hour to travel between Keflavik and Reykjavik.
Taking the FlyBus
This bus will take you directly from the airport to the BSI Bus Terminal or selected tour/FlyBus bus stops near your hotel. An ENFID Iceland representative will meet you at the BSI Terminal. It costs 3999kr (28€) to the BSI Bus Terminal, or 5199kr (36€) to the bus stop nearest your hotel in Reykjavik if you choose to stay a few nights before or after the AGA. You can book the FlyBus here. NOTE: If there are already 4 or more traveling together, it is cheaper and more convenient to book a taxi.
Taking a TAXI
A reputable taxi service charges 20000kr (138€) for a sedan or 26000kr (179€) for a van, from Keflavik Airport to your hotel. You can book Hreyfill Taxi here. There are also taxis waiting in the taxi line outside the airport. They are not cheaper. Hreyfill is the oldest taxi service in Iceland and their website clearly lists their charges. You will however need to add a 450 kr (3€) taxi rank charge to your fare.
Renting a car
Those who wish to move independently of the group can rent a car. You are free to choose whichever car rental service is available.
● City Car Rental & Nordic Campers are car rental companies owned by ENFID board member Evelyn and her husband Diddi. Booking is through their websites. The advantage to this is that you can talk directly to the owners for some privileges.
